The Onus: #8 Seeds

And finally our last entry. These guys are just happy they made it. I think.

Montreal Canadiens - The PP Point

Anaheim Ducks - Jonas Hiller
Will Schneider play? Will Markov play? Will that even matter? The Habs strength lies in their talented PP, however without a proper anchor how will the Habs cycle and move the puck? If the Habs are to have any success they’ll have to take advantage of the opportunities they get.He took the job from another guy who made a name for himself on hockey’s greatest stage; can he do the same thing? These Ducks have been all over the place, all year long. But you can’t count out any team with Pronger and Niedermeyer anchoring the blue line, and balding talent Ryan Getzlaf up front, that is, unless your goalie leaves you out to dry. New catchphrase “My name is Jonas.”

Montreal Canadiens - Alex Kovalev
Anaheim Ducks - Bobby Ryan
The Canadiens are a mess. I kind of giggle like a girl when I think about whether they even have a chance against the Bruins…but to be fair, if they can get some scoring from anyone…ANYONE…it would help immensely. Kovalev has had a dismal season compared to last. Montreal’s PP needs to be extremely efficient if they are going to have a chance against Boston…or anyone for that matter. When Price isn’t on his game, which might be often, the Canadians offense will need to keep pace with their opponent. Who better to look towards than their Russian captain. After his first full NHL season (still only played 64 games), Bobby Ryan has turned a lot of heads his way, and for good reason. Second on his team in goals with 31, the Ducks are going to need the 22 yr old winger to continue his offensive output if they hope to keep pace with the high powered offense that is the San Jose Sharks. And hell, even if they can get past the Sharks…then they have to keep pace with Detroit. Better bring your A game Bobby.

Montreal Canadiens - Carey Price
Anaheim Ducks - Giguere or Hiller
It's really a tie between Price and Kovalev, so I chose the player who annoys me the most. Sure, having a great run in junior hockey/as a young player is usually a sign of greatness ... but that's not always the case (paging Mr. Daigle). After all the over-the-top fellatio that Price received from the hockey press, he flat-out sucked against the Flyers last year. And he's fallen flat on his face this season. But all could be forgiven if he makes good against the Bruins. So what's it going to be, oh hockey savior? This is another partial cheat, but the Ducks almost always seem to have strange goaltending situations. Remember those times Bryzgalov played the first round, mysteriously, and then Giguere popped up later on? The Ducks won a Cup with that cooky formula. With the amount of talent Anaheim has, it might not be that much of a shock if they beat the Sharks. But it also could be an all-out beating if Giguere/Hiller play as poorly as they have during the lower points of the Ducks' roller coaster season.
Reed - CapitalsKremlin.com
Montreal Canadiens - Price or Halak
Anaheim Ducks - Ryan Getzlaf
Who knows which one of you will be getting the starts? Oh well, just don’t let 100 years of history crush your focus, because that’s the big distraction this year. Fans were expecting something huge, and now that Montreal is looking a bit like last year’s Ottawa, if the goalies can’t come through, the Habs won’t get through round one.Stanley Cup? Been there, done that. Getzlaf's 91 points make him the Duck's offensive leader and he has 14 points in his past 8 games entering the playoffs. Ryan Getzlaf makes the Ducks offense go, and he's already a proven playoff preformer. Writing all this makes it hurt even more that the Caps drafted Eric Fehr instead of this guy. Oh well.

Ladies and gentlemen, there are your playoff ONI. We may revisit these by round, or at the end of the playoffs. But either way, there you have it.

Thanks to James and Reed for their contributions.
