Edmonton Oilers: FAIL

Last night, during what may have been the most important game of the season for two teams, the Ducks and the Oilers were battling it out to keep their playoff hopes alive. Well...one team did just that...and the other one kinda made an f-n fool out of themselves.

Trailing 4-3 with less than 2 min to play, the Oilers took a gamble. And boy did it backfire. They tried to get Selanne for an illegal stick curve hoping to receive a PP, after a "reliable source" led head coach Craig MacTavish to believe such shenanigans.

FAIL.

To MacTavish's defense, I'd say at least 60% of the players on the ice any given night have illegal stick curves...so I can see where it was worth the gamble. I have a Jagr stick...and boy...MEAT HOOK. But I digress....because instead, the Ducks received the power play after Selanne's stick was deemed legal and that eventually lead to an empty net goal by Robby Niedermayer.
"We had what we thought was some reliable information," said MacTavish. "On a visual it didn't even look close to me. I was so sure that I made the call and it was obviously a terrible mistake. You have to be sure and I thought I had enough information so it's a terrible feeling. It sabotaged what was looking like was going to be a heck of a comeback."
Hmmmm...who do you think that reliable source was....lets say for shits and giggles it was maybe Dustin Penner...ex-teammate of Selanne and ex-Duck.

It would be funny if it were true though. Penner has been in MacTavish's doghouse just about all season...so it would make it just even funnier (yes funnier) if Penner was trying to help his cause when in reality, he buries himself...and possibly his whole team's season by committing an epic failure.

Boy isn't it fun to speculate?
