Yesterday was one hell of a day for us Pittsburgh Sports fans. The Pens finally got back-to-back wins in a long time, and the Stillers advanced to their 7th Super Bowl.
I'm not going to recap the Pens game, that's what Pensblog is for, they do it better. But, I will highlight some of the good things I saw yesterday:
-The Pens are COMMITTED to playing the 1-2-2. If they stay committed, they will win a lot more games in the future.
-Fleury had one hell of a game. That left pad save on the PP was redic. Big game for his confidence.
-If you don't think Malkin and Crosby played well just bc they weren't on the scoresheet, you're a douchmonger.
-Whitney looks like he's finally comfortable back there. His best game by far and we now have 2 puck moving defensemen! Woo.
Finally, remember Malkin's hit on Zherdev? Well Shelly Anderson of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette got Malkin's response to it...read this gem.
"No, I'm not looking for Zherdev," Malkin said after the Penguins' 3-0 victory. "I think it's [center Scott] Gomez; Zherdev is my friend. It was a bad hit. I did not see who [it was] and just [hit him] a little bit with my arm. I think it's Gomez."
In the second period, Zherdev knocked Malkin down, and Malkin retaliated, drawing a cross-checking penalty. But even then, Malkin said, he wasn't trying to express any anger.
"I hit back," he said. "I say, 'I'm sorry.'"
Haha. So apparently Malkin was looking to take that lil bitch Gomez's head off. Hilarious.
